With the upcoming auction, the hype continues to build as The Razor is making more and more headlines. Our prized property and architectural marvel recently took center stage in a news report by ABC Channel 10. The story highlighted The Razor’s magnificence with its location that is “hollowed out from the cliffs over Black’s Beach” and the floor-to-ceiling glass that “filters light in a way that changes the home’s look depending on the hour.”
The story revealed the home as the most photographed in America as well as a peak into its past. There was a mention of previous Razor owner, software engineer Don Cooksey, who declared bankruptcy and turned the masterpiece over to a trustee.
Don Cooksey spent $34 million to commission the residence designed by top architect Wallace Cunningham, and on September 27th, the bidding will begin at $16 million. The numbers speak for themselves, but Channel 10 quoted Bob Hurwitz describing The Razor as “a steal.”
Those in the market should now that The Razor will only be auctioned if it is not sold prior to September 27th. Interest in the property can be directed to Bob Hurwitz himself at 310.477.8865.
Leading digital financial media publication TheStreet featured Hurwitz James Company’s along with four other realtors and their multi-million dollar listings in an article released August 16. The Hurwitz listing that was featured in Jarold Leslie’s article “5 Super Expensive Foreclosures For Sale” was The Razor Residence in La Jolla, California.
The 11,000 square-foot contemporary home has four bedrooms, eight bathrooms, two fireplaces, a heated pool, a dog run, an eight-car garage and a two-space carport. Designed by one of the Architectural Digest’s top 100 designers, The Razor has been named a Residence of Art as the floor-to-ceiling glass provides uninterrupted views of the natural landscape, open sky and Pacific Ocean only a few hundred feet away. The prime location all includes private access to Black’s Beach and close proximity to Del Mar Thoroughbred race track and Torrey Pine preserve and golf course.
The Razor has commanded attention and served as the backdrop of TV spots for Calvin Klein’s new high-end collection and Visa’s Black Card. If it is not sold beforehand, The Razor is scheduled to go up for auction September 28. The bidding will begin at $16 million. If you are interested in this one-of-a-kind estate, contact Bob Hurwitz at 310.477.8865.
The Calabasas estate was formerly the residence of Nicole Murphy.
Hurwitz James Company had the honor of working with two celebrities for two exciting real estate transactions this summer. Back in May, Bob Hurwitz closed on the sale of a $5.95 million Calabasas, California home, which was the former residence of Nicole Murphy. The 9,214-square-foot Spanish hacienda has seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, an office, a theater, a game room and a living room complete with a wet bar and wine cellar. It’s nothing short of grandiose with the added elevator, personal spa and six fireplaces. The lavish exterior offers two three-car garages, an expansive pool and a detached casita with a full kitchen. Let’s just say the buyer of this gorgeous property has all the luxuries that a homeowner could dream of.
Recently purchased by Jonathan Littman, the Encino home was the setting for “Entourage” Season 7.
Just recently, Bob Hurwitz closed on the sale of an Encino home listed for $4.2 million to Emmy-winning TV producer Jonathan Littman. This 9,010 square-foot Tuscan-style villa with seven bedrooms and 10 bathrooms was used as the setting for Season 7 of HBO’s hit series “Entourage.” Littman will be enjoying 22-foot-high beamed ceilings, seven fireplaces, a media room and a study as well as over three-quarters of an acre that includes a waterfall, mosaic-tiled pool, spa, kitchen, barbecue, bar and fireplace.
One of the Hurwitz James Company’s featured listings has made the news recently. The Razor, as the house is called, is just as much of a work of art as it is a house and AOL Real Estate has published and article about it.
This house is a work of art with an amazing view.
The Razor sits on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in La Jolla, a San Diego Suburb. The original owner of the house commissioned architect Wallace Cunningham to build the home – the building cost alone of the unfinished construction is $34 million.
It is being auctioned off soon with a minimum bid of $16 million – less half of the construction cost and far below the original $45 million asking price.
The house was never built with the intention of selling it, but as the market began to turn, the owner decided to move and put the house on the market before completing the interior.
Because of the length of time that the house is on the market, the house will be auctioned on September 28 with a starting bid of $16 million and increase in increments of $100,000.
